All Copies of Wrong Turn 6 Recalled for an Emergency Image Edit

On October 21st, the sixth installment in the Wrong Turn franchise went direct-to-video, titled Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort. After scooping up mostly negative reviews from critics and fans alike, the film seemingly dropped off the face of the earth, and is currently no longer available for purchase outside of high-priced eBay auctions.

What the hell happened, you ask? Well, here’s the story…

Shortly after the release, which saw Wrong Turn 6 hitting DVD, Blu-ray and all major VOD outlets, a court case was filed over in Ireland, the plaintiffs citing invasion of privacy. The suit was filed by the family of 66-year-old Stacia Purcell, a County Wexford woman who went missing last year and whose dead body was subsequently discovered.

As reported by Yahoo, a family photo of the late grandmother is seen 22-minutes into the film, portrayed as a missing 81-year-old man. It was of course tastelessly used without permission, and the family is needless to say unhappy about the damaging depiction of their deceased loved one. The case is currently being contested in court.

In the meantime, 20th Century Fox made the smart move by pulling all existing copies of the film from release, as well as removing it from streaming outlets. For now, Wrong Turn 6 is completely out-of-print, suddenly making it a hot commodity on the home video market. Auctions on eBay have reached as high as $45, and you can expect those prices to go up.

It’s likely that Fox will simply re-edit the film, remove the photograph in question and re-release it at some point down the road, though they haven’t yet announced any future plans.

In Wrong Turn 6, the unrelenting terror starts when an emotionally troubled young man, Danny, inherits an isolated backwoods hotel that may hold the key to his secret past. A trip to the peaceful resort quickly transforms into a blood-soaked killing spree as Danny’s friends are brutally murdered one by one.

Danny discovers that Three Finger and his flesh-eating kin are to blame, but the chilling surprises they have in store for him have only just begun. Danny ultimately learns that he has an unthinkable connection to the clan of hillbilly cannibals, but now that he knows the shocking truth, he will face an even more horrifying choice.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
