Carrie White is off the ground. The new poster for Mike Flanagan’s Carrie, out from Prime Video, puts Summer H. Howell hovering above the viewer while chaos and destruction erupt behind her. The art landed September 21, and the series itself is now out: we watched it, and it made us mad but also intrigued.

That is a telling choice for a campaign that has been careful up to now. The official trailer leaned on the shower scene and stayed out of the gym entirely. The episode titles read like a class schedule that ends on “AP Physics.” This is the first piece of marketing that simply shows Carrie using the power, with the premiere a little over two weeks away.
Stephen King Has Already Weighed In
The series has been seen by more than just the marketing team. It premiered in TIFF’s Primetime program this month, and Fantastic Fest audiences got the first two episodes as well. The man who wrote the book has seen it too. Stephen King posted his verdict on Threads earlier this month:
“Mike Flanagan’s version of CARRIE is brilliant. What it has to say about social media is shocking and true.”
Stephen King, on Threads
King is an executive producer, so read that with the appropriate grain of salt. It is still worth noting. King has been openly unhappy with adaptations of his work before, and Flanagan has now earned his approval on Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, The Life of Chuck and this.

Who Is Behind the Camera
Flanagan wrote the series and directs four of the eight episodes. The rest are split among Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick and Hiromi Kamata. Siegel and Carolyn are longtime members of the Flanagan company, and this is Siegel directing alongside her husband after years of starring in his work.

Howell leads a cast that includes Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Amber Midthunder, Matthew Lillard, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti and Thalia Dudek. This version starts Carrie at home, isolated with her mother, until her father’s sudden death sends her into public high school and into a world of viral bullying.
All eight episodes of Carrie arrive Wednesday, October 7, on Prime Video.
