Since the release of the first Candyman trailer, there has been online discourse about how much this new film will have to do with the original Tony Todd’s Candyman. The first trailer gave clues, and as we have gone a long TV spots have revealed Todd’s voice. Now, the latest Candyman clip reveals a chat that calls back to Helen Lyle from the original film.
Burke recounts his recollection of both Helen Lyle and his brief run-in with what he thought was Candyman. It also paints the picture of what the title of the film truly represents. I’m all about this film having that bigger message and multiple faced approach to the character. It’s smart as hell and Nia DaCosta looks to be creating something chilling and memorable in a variety of ways.
The synopsis for Candyman goes like this:
For as long as the residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood were terrorized by the word-of-mouth ghost story about the supernatural killer Daniel Robitaille, aka the Candyman, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror.
