How to Play Bloodline
Bloodline is a horror take on the sliding merge puzzle. Slide the whole crypt one direction at a time, and when two of the same creature collide they breed into the next one up the chain.
- Use the arrow keys or W A S D on a keyboard, or swipe in any direction on a phone. Every tile on the board moves at once.
- Two rats make a bat, two bats make a crow, and so on up twelve tiers – rat, bat, crow, spider, hound, ghoul, wraith, witch, vampire, werewolf, wendigo, and finally the Devil.
- You score whatever a merge creates, so a wraith is worth more than a hundred rats.
- A new creature crawls in after every move. When nothing on the board can move any more, the run is over.
- Breed your way to the Wendigo to finish the crypt. The Devil is one rung past that.
Questions
Does everyone get the same board?
Yes. Which creature appears, where it appears and in what order are all fixed by the date, so every player is working the same crypt on the same day.
Can I play it more than once a day?
As many times as you like. Because the crypt is seeded by the date, run ten replays the same spawns as run one – so a better score really is a better run, not a luckier one.
Is the Wendigo actually reachable?
Yes, and it takes roughly 1,500 to 2,000 moves of careful play. Keeping your biggest creature pinned in one corner is the whole trick.
Is my score saved?
Your best for the day is kept in your own browser. It resets at midnight with the new crypt, and it does not follow you to another device.
When does a new crypt open?
At midnight in your own time zone. Leave the page open and it swaps itself over.
