Anne Rice’s ‘The Mayfair Witches’ Series Greenlit at AMC

Anne Rice is Making AMC Witchy

by Trey Hilburn III

Anne Rice is one of our literary horror heroes. Her Vampire Chronicles is one of literature’s greatest vampire stories. Today, Rice is unleashing her witchy side over at AMC. The Lives of Mayfair Witches books are being adapted to a television series. If you recall there is an Interview With the Vampire series already in development and set to arrive on AMC in late 2022. It turns out that AMC purchased a lot of Rice’s works – 18 in all. It turns out that AMC wasn’t just purchasing Rice’s vampire stories,  they also purchased The Lives of Mayfair Witches books.

The trilogy of Mayfair books were made up of The Witching Hour, Lasher and Taltos.

Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford are both executive producers and writers of the series, according to the press release. Spalding is also acting as head hancho showrunner for the series.

“The world of witches has fascinated and terrified for centuries. And yet Anne Rice’s particular lens on witches explored something new altogether. Women who are powerful, often brutal, and always committed to subverting our current power structures. We are so excited to join our partners AMC and Gran Via Productions in making this mysterious and provocative world come to life.” Ashford and Spalding said.

The press release goes onto describe The Mayfair Witches synopsis like this:

“The series will focus on an intuitive young neurosurgeon who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.”

Rice was constantly having her characters crossover into the lives of other characters. For example, don’t be surprised if Interview with the Vampire characters end up crossing over into The Mayfair Witches series.

I think out of all this great Rice news, it is also very exciting to know that Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul producer, Mark Johnson is also producing The Mayfair Witches.

You can expect an eight-episode run of the Interview with the Vampire series in late 2022. We will be sure to let you all know release details for The Mayfair Witches as they arrive.
