American Horror Story: 13 drops three episodes on premiere night, Thursday, September 24, and three more the following Thursday. FX locked in the schedule this week. Six of the season’s 13 chapters will be out before the first week of October is over.
From there the season settles into two episodes each Thursday, closing with the finale on October 29 — two days short of Halloween, which for this show counts as restraint. Every chapter runs a half hour, a format shift we covered when the full trailer arrived. The premiere airs at 9 p.m. ET on FX and Hulu, with Disney+ carrying the season internationally.
The dates arrived alongside a new teaser, titled The Grand Unveiling, which opens on Jessica Lange and never really recovers from it. She turns up as Constance Langdon from Murder House — “It’s good to be back, isn’t it?” — and again as Fiona Goode, the Supreme from Coven, addressing the room like a host: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome at last. We are all assembled for this special occasion.”
Six Episodes Before the Momentum Can Die
The front-loading is the interesting decision. AHS has spent fifteen years on a weekly hour, which gives a season seven days between chapters to be argued about and, in the weaker years, seven days to be abandoned. Half-hour episodes released in threes turn the first fortnight into something closer to a binge, then hand the back half of the season a two-a-week rhythm heading into Halloween week.
It also means the premise cannot stall. A season built on returning characters has to start paying them off immediately when six chapters are on the table before most viewers have finished arguing about the first one.

Almost Everyone Is Playing More Than One Person
The teaser confirms the part the earlier trailer left vague: the leads are not each returning as one character. Per TheWrap, Sarah Paulson is back as Cordelia Goode, Wilhemina Venable, Ally Mayfair-Richards, Lana Winters and Sally McKenna. Evan Peters returns as James March, Tate Langdon and Kai Anderson. Lange carries Elsa Mars, Constance Langdon and Fiona Goode.
That is a structural answer as much as a fan-service one. If a single actor is holding five roles, the season either has a reason those people can occupy the same story or it has decided nobody will ask. Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have built whole seasons on less.

FX’s announcement also widens the roll call beyond the names already confirmed, listing Mena Suvari, Jamie Brewer, Mat Fraser, Seth Gabel, Orlando Jones, Tig Notaro, Madelaine Petsch, Zach Villa, Avantika, Alex Consani, Elle Chapman, Berto Colon, Joey Pollari, Paul Anthony Kelly, Fedor Steer and, in the single most AHS casting decision available, John Waters.
The Show Has Tried a Crossover Before
This is not the anthology’s first collision. Apocalypse, the eighth season, ran Murder House into Coven in 2018 and brought Lange back as Constance for a single episode, “Return to Murder House,” that a lot of viewers remember more fondly than the season around it. That was two seasons shaking hands over a fence. This is the whole shelf tipped into one box, on a five-week clock.
What the teaser still withholds is the threat. Something is hunting the witches, and the footage shows consequences without showing a face. For a season selling reunions, the useful secret is which of these people do not make it to October 29.
