It may not be “game over” for the Alien franchise just yet. Sigourney Weaver revealed that both Walter Hill and David Giler wrote a 50 page treatment that Weaver has now read.
Both Hill and Giler are longtime collaborators on the Alien franchise and have formulated a new chapter that would be predicated on Sigourney Weaver returning to the character of Lt. Ellen Ripley. So, start praying to the gods that Weaver likes what she sees enough to come back to the role.
“Sigourney, as she has from the very beginning, is being too modest about her proven ability to pull off the idea which is to tell a story that scares the pants off your date, kicks the ass of a new Xenomorph, and conducts a meditation on both the universe of the Alien franchise and the destiny of the character of Lt. Ellen Ripley” Hill told Syfy Wire.
Brandywine Productions shared an image of the treatment as well. The cover reveals a new tagline that reads “In Space No One Can Hear You Dream”. It’s an obvious and well-done play on the original film’s tagline, “In Space No One Can Hear You Scream”.
The new tagline combined with the two quotes from Edgar Allan Poe and General William Tecumseh Sherman are obvious clues to what may be in store.
General Sherman best known for his total war campaign in the south during the Civil War. His methods were to destroy and burn everything in sight in enemy territory. Could that be a clue that Ripley may do the same thing to the Xenomorph’s home? If so, I’m entirely in.
Perhaps the mention of dreams in the Poe quote point to certain parts of the franchise being dreams. I.E. her death in Alien 3 and the cartoonish approach of Alien Resurrection. For the record, I enjoy all of the films.
What do you guys think? Hopeful Weaver gets involved in the project? Let us know in the comments.
