“To all the fans asking me if this is really happening… YES!” That’s actress Melanie Kinnaman on social media confirming that Crystal Lake Nightmares is real.

Kinnaman played Pam on Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985).

Not many details have been released about the event taking place on August 8-10 in Burbank, CA, but we can safely assume that cast members across the franchise will attend. If it’s like any other convention, guests will also enjoy vendors, photo ops, autographs, and other Friday the 13th collectibles.

Crystal Lake Nightmares says this event is going to celebrate 45 years of the original Friday the 13th which opened on May 19, 1980. It spawned nine sequels, a Freddy Krueger crossover, and a 2009 reboot directed by Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – 2003).

Jason Voorhees traded severing ligaments for litigation over the past several years sheathing his machete as the film’s original creators went to court over rights issues

That case has been settled, with both parties going their separate ways and taking with them rights to pieces of Jason at different points of his development. It was basically a custody case over using Jason’s mask on film. This could be the reason we see strange diodes on Jason’s mask in the promo poster below.

Other than fan films, there hasn’t been a proper Friday the 13th project since Nispel’s movie.

Peacock promises a Camp Crystal Lake series which has been in development hell since 2023 and a new Jason Voorhees website run by some of the original creators popped up in 2023 promising all kinds of things. So far, that promise has been lackluster.

Hopefully this upcoming Friday the 13th event will finally give fans what they want: a space where they can celebrate the franchise in the absence of a new film.
