It hasn’t quite been three decades since Danny Boyle’s original “zombie” film, but today Sony released its first official trailer for 28 Years Later. Boyle returns to direct this, the second sequel along with writer of the original, Alex Garland.
Although the plot was under wraps the trailer gives us a little insight into the Earth and its inhabitants after the release of the “rage virus” 10,228 days prior.
The studio’s YouTube page includes the following synopsis from Sony:
“It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”
The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson who has been busy this past year. He stars in two movies releasing this month: Kraven the Hunter and Nosferatu.
No servant to convention, Boyle filmed this movie on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Ralph Fiennes confirmed the use of the medium in October, “Yeah, the iPhone attached on the back of huge lenses!”
People will have to wait and see the final product when it opens theatrically on June 20, 2025.
