We’ve all been a teenager at some point in our lives, so we can all appreciate the fact that it kinda sucks. Everyone seems to be struggling through an ongoing identity crisis and peer pressure is a total pain in the ass. You’re too young for total freedom, yet too old to get away with any bad decisions you do make. Now imagine that, by some glorious accident, you stumble upon a magic box that grants seven wishes. What could possibly go wrong? Well, according to the new trailer for Wish Upon, a lot. A lot could go wrong.
If you’ve ever seen any of the Wishmaster series, you know the rules of the supernatural horror wish machine. Young girl makes wish, wish is granted, someone suffers painfully as a repercussion. The fun twist in Wish Upon is that our young protagonist just doesn’t want to stop with the disastrous wishes.
Again, being a teenager is hard, but girl. Stop it. You have seven wishes. So much could go wrong. So, obviously, it does, despite her insistence that “everything will be fine”. While everything seems to be working out well for our protagonist, we see a wish that a mean girl would “just, like, go rot” results in her skin quickly rotting. We also catch a glimpse of an unfortunate encounter with a garbage disposal in a scene that’s reminiscent of something we’d see in Final Destination.
This one seems like it could be fun, especially if you’re into sweet, petty, teenage revenge. What better way to deal with a mean girl almost running you over in her car than by wishing her dermatological doom?
Wish Upon is directed by John R. Leonetti (Annabelle) and written by Barbara Marshall (Viral). Joey King (The Conjuring) stars alongside Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks) and Ryan Phillippe (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Cruel Intentions). And look! Shannon Purser (Beloved Barb from Stranger Things) is back!
Wish Upon hits theatres on June 30. Check out the trailer below.
If you’re wishfully thinking about magical murder, you can eagerly look forward to the Wishmaster Franchise’s Blu-Ray Box Set Release.
