Silent Hill (2006), courtesy TriStar Pictures.

Silent Hill

Based upon the video game of the same name, Silent Hill is about a woman whose adopted daughter disappears while the pair are visiting a mysterious town (called Silent Hill, of course).  Creepy and atmospheric, this 2006 thriller boasts an all-star cast of not-quite-household names, people like Sean Bean, Laurie Holden, Kim Coates, Alice Krige, and Radha Mitchell.  If you like spooky video game adaptations, check out Silent Hill right here at Crackle.

Strange Invaders (1983), courtesy Orion Pictures.

Strange Invaders

Strange Invaders is about a town that was invaded by aliens which took over all of the townspeople in the fifties.  When a woman disappears while visiting the town, her husband goes looking for her and discovers that the alien townspeople are not just peaceful inhabitants.  This 1983 sci-fi flick is a fun throwback to paranoid fifties sci-fi, sort of like The Thing meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers.  It also stars Paul Le Mat, Nancy Allen, Wallace Shawn, Louise Fletcher, and Michael Lerner.  Report a Strange Invaders sighting right here at Vudu.

Ratter (2015), courtesy Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Ratter

Ratter is about a young woman who unwittingly downloads a Remote Access Trojan (or a Ratter) which takes over all of her devices and allows a stalker to, well, stalk her.  This 2015 movie’s gimmick is that everything is shown from the point of view of the victim’s devices, so the effect is a lot like that of Unfriended, Open Windows, or (possibly) the upcoming Friend Request – even the plotline lifts a lot from The DenRatter is for the found footage technophobe fans that don’t mind if their movies’ technology is outdated two weeks after release.  If this sounds like you, Ratter is waiting for your click right here at Crackle.

13 Sins (2014), courtesy Dimension Films.

13 Sins

13 Sins is about a struggling, drowning-in-debt salesman who receives a strange offer to play a game in which he will receive rewards for completing tasks.  Predictably, there are thirteen tasks, and the financial rewards get grander and grander as the tasks get more and more intense.  This 2014 movie is an Americanized remake of the 2006 Thai film 13: Game of Death, so for those of you who have been holding out for a subtitle-less version of the deadly truth-or-dare flick, this one’s for you.  You can find 13 Sins here at TubiTV.

Sisters of Death (1976), courtesy First American Films.

Sisters of Death

Sisters of Death is about a sorority pledge who is accidentally killed during a game of Russian roulette that is part of their initiation ceremony.  When the surviving sisters get together for a reunion, they are stalked and killed one by one.  In many ways, Sisters of Death is a typical slasher movie, with all of the tropes and stereotypes that the genre has to offer.  However, it was made in 1972 (although not released until 1977), two years before Black Christmas and four years before Halloween, which makes it a prototype instead of an archetype.  Keep an eye out for former playmate Claudia Jennings and Beverly Hills 90210 Peach Pit owner Joe E. Tata in this one.  Catch Sisters of Death here at DailyMotion.
