Hey Tightwads! It’s Tuesday again, and that means more free movies from Tightwad Terror Tuesday. So here they are…
The Video Dead
The Video Dead is about a television set which is used as a portal for zombies to enter the living world. The TV is sequestered in an abandoned house, but a young boy stumbles across it when his family moves in, and the zombies start coming. This 1987 straight-to-video classic is the very definition of low-budget; it’s cheap, quick, and a whole lot of fun to watch. The Video Dead is a must see for fans of both zombie movies and low-budget eighties schlock. You can find it here at TubiTV.
Love him or hate him, there’s one thing you have to admit about Nicolas Cage – he doesn’t do anything halfway. Made in 1988, Vampire’s Kiss stars Cage as a business executive who is bitten by a woman who he believes to be a vampire, so he believes that he has been turned into a vampire as well. This is one of Cage’s most Cagey performances. It also stars Jennifer Beals, Maria Conchita Alonso, and Elizabeth Ashley. Get a taste of Vampire’s Kiss here at Vudu.
Savage Weekend is about a group of people who take a weekend trip to the country in order to check out a schooner that their friend is building. Once there, they find themselves being stalked by a masked killer. Made in 1979, this proto-slasher was about a year ahead of its time, with its high body count and inventive kills. Keep an eye out for William Sanderson, aka Larry with his two brothers named Darryl on Newhart, as a local bumpkin who is helping to build the boat. Spend a Savage Weekend right here at DailyMotion.
The generically (and somewhat misleadingly) titled Killer Party is about a bunch of people who have gathered for a baby shower. During the party, a strange epidemic turns people outside into homicidal maniacs, trapping the revelers inside the home. There’s very little in this 2014 B-movie that you haven’t seen before, but it’s good for a quick eighty minute escape. It’s a zombie premise, but not really a zombie movie. There is a cool psycho clown, though. Check out Killer Party right here at Vudu.
The Elephant Man
The Elephant Man is a 1980 based-on-a-true-story biopic about Joseph Merrick, aka The Elephant Man, a deformed man who is saved from a life of being a sideshow freak by a doctor. Not so much of a horror movie as it is a biography of a man who is perceived to be a monster by the rest of the world, The Elephant Man is director David Lynch at his most mainstream – it was even nominated for eight Oscars (winning none, however). The late, great John Hurt turns in a brilliant performance as John Merrick (the movie changes that character’s first name), with Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft making up the supporting cast.
