The Crush (1993), courtesy Warner Bros.

The Crush

The Crush is about a fourteen-year-old girl who develops a crush on an older man who rents her parents’ guest house.  When he rightfully rebuffs her advances, she decides to take revenge on the poor guy by stalking him relentlessly.  Made in 1993, The Crush is typical of the teen horror movies that peppered the decade of the nineties.  Alicia Silverstone plays the psychotic little girl, Cary Elwes stars as the older man, and Jennifer Rubin portrays the poor sap’s girlfriend.  Check out The Crush right here at Shout Factory TV.

Nightstalker (2009), courtesy Hollywood House of Horror.

Nightstalker

This past weekend, director Ulli Lommel passed away.  Lommel was best known as the director of The Boogey Man, but he also made a slew of those “inspired by” serial killer movies.  Nightstalker is his 2009 offering that was inspired by, yep, Richard Ramirez, a.k.a. the “Night Stalker,” who terrorized California in the mid-eighties.  Nightstalker is a by-the-numbers exploitive true-crime slasher, just like the rest of the “inspired by” movies.  If that’s your thing, you can find Nightstalker here at Vudu.

Requiem for a Dream (2000), courtesy Artisan Entertainment.

Requiem For A Dream

Requiem for a Dream is modern cinema auteur Darren Aronofsky’s 2000 ode to the darker side of drug addiction.  It follows a guy, his girlfriend, his best friend, and his mother as they all experiment with different substances and spiral into a black abyss of hopelessness.  The stellar cast includes Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, Marlon Wayans, and Ellen Burstyn.  Requiem for a Dream is one of those feel-bad movies that you only need to see once, but if you haven’t yet, you can see it here at TubiTV.

I Spit on Your Corpse (1974), courtesy Independent International Pictures.

I Spit on Your Corpse

Also known as Fatal Pursuit and Girls for Rent, I Spit on Your Corpse is about a prostitute who unwittingly gets wrapped up in a murder plot and winds up fleeing for her life from two other women who are sent to hunt her down.  Don’t let the name fool you; I Spit on Your Corpse may be an exploitation flick, but it’s nowhere near as crass and brutal as I Spit on Your Grave, and in fact, it was made four years earlier in 1974.  Catch up with I Spit on Your Corpse right here at Popcornflix.

Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys (2014), courtesy Gravitas Ventures.

Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys

This last one is cheating a bit, seeing as how it’s a documentary about a sci-fi phenomenon instead of anything horror, but it’s a fun movie that should be seen so we’re going to allow it.  Just as the name implies, Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys is a 2014 movie about the history of the development of Star Wars toys, from Kenner rushing them into stores after the breakaway success of the first Star Wars movie in 1977 to the newest incarnations of the figures and playsets.  This one is mostly a fun time capsule back to the days when action figures were new and exciting, and those who lived through the era will love once again seeing all of the old toys that their parents sold at garage sales for pennies on the dollar.  Have a look at Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys right here at Viewster.
