News arrived this week of an epic new novel from horror master Stephen King in collaboration with his son, Owen King. The novel, due out September 26, 2017, is titled Sleeping Beauties and the synopsis on StephenKing.com has our pulse pounding already!
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep; they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place…
The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain?
Set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women’s prison, SLEEPING BEAUTIES is a wildly provocative, gloriously absorbing father/son collaboration between Stephen King and Owen King.
While King’s older son, Joe Hill, has been a mainstay in horror fiction for a decade, this will be Owen King’s first foray into the genre. His previous publications have fallen into a more mainstream literary fiction as well as graphic novels. He has made a strong name for himself among readers and it was clear from his first novel, Double Feature, that he had inherited the storytelling gift from both of his parents. (Stephen’s wife, Tabitha King, is also a novelist.)
King has previously published collaborations with Joe and with this new outing with Owen, the avid reader inside me can’t help but think of the possibilities of all three working together!
This is the second announcement of a major collaboration between novelist parent and son we’ve received this year. It was only a few days ago that Anne Rice and her son Christopher reported a new collaborative novel, Ramses the Damned: The Passion of Cleopatra.
Without a doubt, the latter part of this year is going to be one of a kind in the world of horror literature, and we’re counting down the days to release!
