Cancelling The Apocalypse Once Again: ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ Trailer Drops

Hard to believe it was only a couple of years ago that Guillermo del Toro brought us Pacific Rim. The epic, big budgeted, mecha versus giant monster movie that was every sci-fi fan, anime viewer, and monster kid’s dream come true. It was a miracle it was even made, but the question that remained after was: would it get a sequel? The answer, fortunately, turned out to be yes! Though del Toro is only producing this time around, the feature directed by Steven S. DeKnight of Netflix’s Daredevil. And just today, we’ve got our first look at Pacific Rim Uprising!

The story follows Jake Pentecost (John Boyega, Attack The Block/Star Wars) the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost from the first Pacific Rim. Jake ending up following his father’s footsteps in piloting a Jaeger mecha against the renewed Kaiju threat. We also see the return of characters such as Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi), Gottlieb (Burn Gorman), and Dr. Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day), all working together to fight enemies old and new. It also seems like we’ll be seeing some Jaeger VS Jaeger brawls! And in further escalation, it looks like the Kaiju are back with a serious growth spurt, the end of the trailer even noting just how huge they are now.

If you want to see some Kaiju VS Giant Robot, apocalypse canceling, explosive action, see you in theaters for Pacific Rim Uprising on March 23rd, 2018!
