Milla Jovovich to Play the Villain in Hellboy Reboot

Published

on

As popular as Guillermo Del Toro’s two Hellboy films were, it’ll always be a bit sad that he didn’t get to make a third. He clearly wanted to make one, but things never seemed to come together.

Former Hellboy actor Ron Perlman was also vocally on-board when it came to making a third film with Del Toro, but no matter how many times he attempted to rile up the fans online, it was never enough.

Perhaps the demise of Del Toro’s Hellboy franchise is due to the rumors of him frequently clashing with studio overlords – reasons often cited for him bowing out of Pacific Rim 2 – but it’s likely we’ll never know for sure. All there is to do now is look forward to the future, which holds a brand new Hellboy movie.

Previously titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, the reboot has now been re-titled simply Hellboy, although it remains to be seen if a new subtitle will be added to differentiate the project from Del Toro’s original.

Taking over the role of Hellboy is Stranger Things star David Harbour, while The Descent’s Neil Marshall assumes the director’s chair. John Wick’s Ian McShane has also been added as Hellboy’s surrogate father Professor Broom.

Now, Deadline reports that Hellboy v2 has signed on quite the heavy hitting actress to play the formerly titular Blood Queen. Milla Jovovich – ass-kicking star of Paul W.S. Anderson’s long-running Resident Evil film series – is set to tackle the villainous role, and damn if she isn’t a great choice.

Whatever one thinks of the RE series, Jovovich always gave each movie her all, and has been a joy to watch on-screen ever since her big breakout role in Luc Besson’s 1997 sci-fi blockbuster The Fifth Element.

Perhaps most interesting about Jovovich playing the Blood Queen is that up until now, her genre work has been dominated by playing badass heroines, and it’ll be fun to see what she does when given the chance to know the power of the dark side.

Neil Marshall’s reboot of Hellboy begins filming this fall. Stay tuned to iHorror for further updates.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
