Back in 2014, we learned that Lars von Trier (Antichrist) was planning a series called The House That Jack Built. Despite the “golden age” of television that we seem to be in these days, Von Trier chose to go the movie route for the project instead.
This past February, Von Trier posted a video revealing that the feature film would follow a serial killer from his point of view, and that it would shoot this year. In May, we learned (via Variety) The House That Jack Built takes place over a period of ten to twelve years, and will feature two “big male characters” and four “big female characters”.
News is out from Deadline today that Matt Dillon will be the serial killer and that Bruno Ganz will play “a mysterious figure named Verge, who engages Jack in a recurring conversation about his actions and thoughts.”
The report shares this quote from Von Trier:
The two gentlemen have each figured as milestones in my cinematic development. Besides being an epochal match, they are excellent actors and fit quite organically into “my cinematic family.” I look forward with pleasure and pride to working with them both.”
Apparently the movie didn’t shoot in August as previously expected. Either way, I think it’s safe to say that a serial killer film from Lars von Trier with this kind of acting talent is something that horror fans will not want to miss.
