Latest Update on the Amityville Horror Reboot

Published

on

It’s now been 10 years since The Amityville Horror got the remake treatment, and in Hollywood years, that might as well be an eternity. A reboot is on its way, and today we’ve got a small update on the project.

Titled Amityville: The Awakening, the latest installment in the never-ending franchise was originally set to haunt theaters last month, though the project suddenly dropped off the radar at the tail end of last year – despite the fact that a trailer had been released.

So what the hell happened? The fine folks over on Arrow in the Head pressed producer Jason Blum for answers this week, breaking the silence and letting us know just what is going on with the ‘indefinitely delayed’ film.

We’re still in post on it. I’m very, very happy with it. We’re continuing to have conversations with Dimension and Weinstein about how it’s going to come out, but it’s definitely going to come out,” said Blum. “I think people are going to like it, Jennifer Jason Leigh is great in the movie. I’m hoping to do another movie with Franck. I’m really pleased with it, my guess is we’ll announce when it’ll come out sometime in the next twelve months.”

Like a lot of the movies that we do, we’re just tinkering with it and trying to make it better. We’re pretty close now. We went back and forth over the cut of the movie, which we’re happy with now. We’re just tinkering with the movie in post-production.”

At the moment we have no way of knowing when Amityville: The Awakening will be released, but you can check out the trailer below. And keep your eyes peeled for more in the near future, here on iHorror.

Co-written by Daniel Farrands and Casey La Scala and directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac), the film stars Jennifer Jason Leigh as Joan, a single mother who moves her three kids into the Amityville house, which of course has a very dark history.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
