Hannibal may be over, but fans can’t seem to let it rest. Brian Fuller can’t either. Now, Hugh Dancy is weighing in.

Dancy, who plays Will Graham on the show, recently gave his opinion on the future of the series in an interview with TVLine. He revealed that while he is hopeful about the show coming back to life, it won’t be for another couple of years. From the interview:

My feeling is that, knock on wood, if it came around again, it wouldn’t be a bad thing for it to be four or five years later,” he says. “That might actually be kind of interesting. How weird would that be, on a personal level, to find yourself back with those people? ‘So… where did we leave off?

He’s got an interesting point there. It may even be best for the show. This would give time for everyone to finish up other projects that they’ve recently gotten involved with, and a reunion later on down the road could possibly add an extra spark that the cast and crew don’t even know that they need.

Realistically speaking, four or five years is chump change. After all, how long did we have to wait until we could see Bruce Campbell reprise his role as Ashley J. Williams? And just look at Twin Peaks, which is set to return on May 21st. Never say never, my friends.

However, Fuller seems a bit more hopeful for a quick return. Maybe this summer, with a miniseries based on Silence of the Lambs? At least on that topic it seems that both Hugh Dancy and Brian Fuller are on the same page. From the same interview:

I know where we stood at the end of Season 3, in terms of what he was thinking about … And it did reflect some elements of Silence of the Lambs… He loves that source material, as he would tell you.

Right now, it appears as if we have nothing more than speculation, and all I’m really doing is fueling the fires of doubt and confusion. So sorry. Come on, you’ve got to admit it it – any information about the continuation of Hannibal is exciting.

So don’t shoot – or eat – the messenger. We’ll keep you updated with all the gory details as we get them. Until then – RERUNS!
