Friday the 13th: The Game – the multiplayer smash hit – has already had fans screaming since its initial release as of May 26th this year. However a big announcement was released this morning via their Facebook page as Gun Media and Illfonic announced that a physical copy of the game can finally be yours!
As of right now the game has only been available as a download for Steam, Xbox One and PS4, a small quirk that left many fans of the massive horror franchise feeling a little disenchanted. Plenty of gamers would prefer to own an actual physical copy of the disk. Not to mention the glamour of showing off the lovely cover art of Jason in the middle of another spectacular kill.
I’m actually one such fan, and now I have the fun dilemma of already owning the game – I couldn’t wait and had to download it – but now wanting a physical copy to add to my collection. These are the trials of hardcore horror collectors, are they not?
Despite the early complaints out there circling among unhappy gamers, I have fallen for Friday the 13th: The Game, and am almost obsessively committed to it. Sure, there were the bugs and glitches upon its initial launch, but many of those issues have been corrected already through updates. Overall, the good times I’ve had playing it outweigh the negative experiences.
Friday the 13th: The Game is playable one of two ways – you will either choose to be Jason and set out to kill as many counselors you can get your hands on, or you will be one of those unfortunate counselors trying to survive Camp Blood. Good luck.
Already players get to choose from a great roster of fan-favorite Jason skins. The iconic look from the movies are nearly all here: Jason from Part 2, Part 3, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8 and Jason Goes to Hell are all currently at the ready.
As an added bonus, the team has thrown in the silly (but come on, we know we love it anyway) NES Jason skin. Having to outrun the NES Jason is both oddly terrifying and hilarious all at once. But there is also the promise of even more upcoming skins and maps for future DLC – not to mention the Single Player mode that’s still to be released.
Gun Media and Illfonic have said that along with the physical copy release will be new skins (clothes) for the counselors as well as “bloody Jason” skins for all your favorite Jason types. So as if playing as Jason wasn’t already enough fun, we will soon get to stomp around as a blood drenched Jason too!
The physical copy will be released Friday the 13th this October. Just in time for Halloween!
