Daniel Radcliffe has come a long way since his Harry Potter days. The young actor has been creatively selective when choosing his more recent roles, with films like Imperium, Swiss Army Man, and Horns. Now, Radcliffe has signed on for another bold new project, working with Deathgasm writer/director Jason Lei Howden.
Howden’s background is in visual effects, working on films like The Avengers, The Hobbit, and Prometheus. His knowledge and skill paid off with his first full-length feature as a writer/director. Deathgasm is a cheeky, gruesome, thrashing horror comedy that won over audiences and horror critics.
Radcliffe joins Howden on his next project, Guns Akimbo, an action comedy that’s sure to draw some attention.
As reported by Deadline,
The story follows Miles who spends his days in a dead-end job, pining for his beautiful ex-girlfriend Nova. His mundane existence is turned upside-down when he finds himself enrolled on a dark net website that forces complete strangers to fight in a city-wide game of death so that their gladiatorial battles can be live-streamed worldwide to a fanatical audience.
Contestants are chosen by a clandestine gang known as Schism, who handicap the weaker contestant to further stack the odds against them. Initially, Miles’ lifetime of running from his problems pays off as he manages to elude his first opponent but when Nova is kidnapped, he must finally stop running and overcome his fears to fight for the girl he loves
It sounds like kind of a Running Man/Battle Royale type of action. If Deathgasm is any indication, Guns Akimbo should be a wildly fun time with plenty of blood and guts to go around.
Occupant Entertainment and Altitude Films will produce. Occupant’s titles include The Hallow and All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. Altitude has produced The Girl With All the Gifts and Ghost Stories.
