Salem returns to WGN America on Wednesday, November 2nd, and the third season will be getting a big ole burst of weird courtesy of Marilyn Manson. The shock-rocker will portray Thomas Dinley, a barber and surgeon who plays a pivotal role in the town of Salem, Massachusetts. On tap today is your first introduction to the creepy Dinley, courtesy of a new teaser trailer.
“My character ends up being something that could be called the devil’s advocate or the devil’s best friend,” Manson told Entertainment Weekly. “He has no moral balance. The place where Dinley operates his business is not dissimilar to my home. I collect a lot of the medical devices.”
“He’s Vidal Sassoon and Jack the Ripper,” noted series co-creator Brannon Braga, who also compared the character to Sweeney Todd. “Don’t be surprised if you see a meat pie or two.”
Continuing its bloody, sexy and fantastical reimagining of Colonial America, Salem’s third season dawns with the triumph of the witches’ plan to remake the New World by bringing the devil to earth and making Salem his capital. But the devil is a liar, and instead of a New World free from murderous Puritan hypocrisy, his own plan will bring nothing but death and slavery with the ultimate aim of leading humanity to destroy itself. And there’s only one person on earth who can beat the devil — the very witch that birthed him, his mother, Mary Sibley.
The only problem is—she’s dead. Or is she?
