With last week’s news that Charles Band was teaming up with major Hollywood producers to create a reboot of Full Moon’s signature Puppet Master franchise – currently subtitled The Littlest Reich – many fans were left wondering about the fate of Puppet Master: Axis Termination, the previously announced 11th and final entry in the original series. One might think one would cancel out the other, but fear not Puppet Master devotees, as Band recently updated the project’s Indiegogo page with the following message:
“I’m announcing today the date for principal photography to begin on Puppet Master: Axis Termination will be: September 12th! All the perks which can be fulfilled now will go out in the next couple weeks. Some perks, such as posters and DVDs, will be shipped after the film is finished.”
For those unaware, Axis Termination continues the plot that began in the 9th film Axis of Evil – and was expanded upon in the 10th film Axis Rising – featuring Blade and the gang teaming up with a group of psychically endowed allied operatives for a final showdown against the lethal Axis Puppets and the ruthless Nazis that guide them.
While two potential Puppet Master continuities might seem like one too many, it’s not really like the main series has ever particularly thrived on maintaining continuity between installments to begin with. At the end of the day, fans will likely just be overjoyed to be getting two new adventures starring Andre Toulon’s murderous puppets in relatively quick fashion. Neither Axis Termination or the reboot have firm release dates as of yet.
