If you were a child of the late ’80s or early ’90s, you probably remember Are You Afraid of the Dark?. Nickelodeon’s kid-friendly horror anthology originally ran from 1990 until 1996, plus a short-lived revival in 1999-2000.

The show was surprisingly creepy for kids, and we would flock to it like a rite of passage. Now we look back at it with a great sense of nostalgia, but we have no legal way of revisiting it – until now!

You see, all seven seasons were released on DVD in Canada (where the show was filmed) between 2006 and 2008, while we just sat around and waited. Even the UK got it before us. Only now is the series finally becoming available in the U.S.

The complete first season of Are You Afraid of the Dark? was quietly released on DVD this past Monday as part of Amazon’s manufacture-on-demand service. This means the company produces the discs on DVD-Rs as they’re ordered.

For $14.99, you get all 13 episodes spread across two discs. Among the “spine-chilling” tales are haunted clowns, a murderous riddle, a ghostly prom, possessed spirits and more.

Our patience hasn’t quite paid off, but at least we finally have some kind of official release. Let’s hope it doesn’t take too long for the rest of the series to pop up.

Now, who do I have to talk to about getting Goosebumps released?
