American Horror Story took us for a wild ride pretty much all of last year months leading up to the September season six premiere. Ryan Murphy sure knows how to plug a series doesn’t he? With what seemed like 100 or so secret promos, all with a different theme, leading us to guess where the hell season six was going, we finally got the word that Roanoke was to be the theme of the season. And while some might argue this, it was bloody glorious. From the Cannibal Holocaust homages with sticks up the rear (see picture below), to the story within a story, within a damn story- it was absolutely brilliant, and a breath of fresh air from the series.

Along with the news that this modern-day horror favorite series has been renewed for another three whole seasons, including officially the seventh, TVLine now reports during the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Thursday, Murphy revealed to the press that season seven of American Horror Story will involve a “modern-day story,” with the added bonus that seasoned vets Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are slated to return to the series. We also know that Murphy has previously stated that Season 7 would involve several Freak Show characters. Could this be a hint to a possible return of John Carroll Lynch (Twisty the Clown) in another form maybe?

As for any further details, Murphy stated he wasn’t entirely sure how he want’s to approach  the whole secrecy debacle surrounding the upcoming season, as he has in previous years.

“I don’t know that we’d do that again. I think maybe we would release [some hints] of it earlier. I just started writing it. I haven’t decided how to do it yet.”

As far as Season seven, and already announced seasons eight and nine, FX Network CEO John Landgraf had this to add to the mix via TVline:

“We know explicitly what next season is about; we don’t know what the eighth and ninth season are about. So yes, we’re extending [the renewal] out of trust and good will. I honestly couldn’t tell you what Season 8 or 9 will be, but I can tell you I’m really excited about Season 7. Also, Ryan made a commitment that he would continue to run that show.”

More on this as it develops. In the meantime, it’s nice to know that the lovely Sarah Paulson and stunning Evan Peters will always be there for us.
